A series documenting the spaces of the vast Berlin underground. (1980) Born in Fenwick, Ontario, Canada, Joel Stevenett graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2003 with a diploma in interior architecture. Since then Joel has worked for internationally recognized interior design firms in both Canada and Ireland while continually experimenting with photography. Primarily self-taught, Joel has explored various photographic techniques, media and subject matter for over a decade, finding his own unique voice in the field. His rural upbringing and his design background intersect as he (re)negotiates the relationship between natural environments, rural spaces and built aspects of the postmodern city. Joel’s work is informed by such contemporary photographers as Spessi, David McMillan and Alec Soth.
