My prints are on Polyester Based Flex. It's an emulsion based photographic process where the image is transferred to the paper via lasers then it goes through all the photographic chemicals (developer, fixer etc) to expose the image. The same material can be used conventionally in an enlarger with negatives. Available as a print or mounted on an archival board called Sintra and then sealed under Plexiglass.

Story

The work I am showing here is a fusion of two bodies of work. Chronologically ”Playing Grown Up” was my first use of miniature dolls to create narratives, which evolved into the series “Is It Safe.” Drawing on memory and a rich family history, I created narratives enacting sociopolitical and autobiographical commentary. These photographs were set on backdrops of the fairytales that I loved as a child.

“Playing Grown “ refers to memories and stories of childhood and adolescent experiences. It is an attempt to create a dichotomy between the apparent playfulness inherent in the use of dolls
and the reality of the narrative.

Moving deeper in to narrative I began the second series. “Is It Safe” which begins to address the story of the paternal side of my family, my grandparents, my father and my uncle all survivors and refugees from the Holocaust and the effects it had on the children, who are now known as the second or third generation survivors. The backdrops for “Is it Safe” were photographs of members of my family who were murdered or survived the Holocaust.
