I explore my feelings, fears, and doubts through self-examination, alluding to the effects of abuse, sometimes self-inflicted. There is a strong aquatic theme throughout the work, forcing the viewer to discern between a submerging figure or a purification of self. This work came out of an exploration of historical events and memories from my childhood. At times the frame is used to suffocate the viewer, allowing no place for escape- at other times, the frame is opened to an uncomfortable level hopefully allowing the viewer to ponder the depths of the landscape beyond the figure.
