The following set is a personal and reactive perspective towards a shopping mall. Being there can fill me with depression and emptiness. Out of this claustrophobic feeling there is a quest for escape and space. So i tried to translate this feeling by taking photos of the surroundings while turning my back to the mall and the shops inside. The results are “exit pictures” that were taken from inside and outside the mall while ignoring the mall itself. A camera is a device that captures light not sound. A photograph is “mute” by its nature. The notion of silence shown through these pictures is an opposite direction to that mall which is considered to be a crowded and noisy place. Silence and space are to support the concept of this “visual escape”.
