Dawn over the holy city of Varanasi in India is perhaps one of the most photographed events on the earth. The spiritual strength and its authenticity which has remained unchanged over the centuries is a powerful stimulus for photographic investigation. In this series I have tried to convey one aspect of the awakening of the city, i.e. the transition from night to morning which corresponds in a dialectical manner to the intimately linked cycle of death and rebirth in Indian philosophy.
