Story

Orthodox Eros explores the theme of Orthodox Jewish man trough the Eros.
The Aesthetic of the work derives from the ethic point, holterman is using the aesthetic as a seductive element to attract the viewer and enable a new perspective ,This results in a defamiliarization of the Jewish man's image.
Holterman creates photographs that lure and provoke the viewer through a unique layering of strong references to art history, modern photography theories and Jewish philosophy. The sensitive and skillful photographs creates new photographic language by the unique and acurate combination between documentary and staged photography, this elements enables to create a new reality, a new myth.
Orthodox Eros addresses the notion of the Jew as the "other" in an erotic sense and analysis the ways in which holiness and sexuality complete each other in this subtext. The sensuality of Jewish spiritual practice is revealed through the body's expression and gestiours.According to orthodox Jewish religion, the body is the temple of one's soul and the sensuality is one of the higher expiration of spirituality. In the photographs the body serves as a text.
