FORTUNE MARKET This is part of a series of images about superstition in Asia and the Fortune Tellers of Wong Tai Sing. More than 100 fortune tellers shops, located in this concrete building behind a taoist temple in Hong Kong. A unique place. Alleys of good fortune with rows of shops spread over two levels. Tiny shops , converted into little offices where they are waiting patiently for clients shopping for good fortune for all kind of personal, family or business matters. The fortune tellers have all different backgrounds. For some the job is passed on from each generation to the next within a family. Others learn it from a Master or through other means. The future of the shops is uncertain as finding someone interested to take over is getting more and more difficult. It is an old traditional business in this society where superstition still plays such an important role in daily life. Majority of the shops were taken. This project is still on going as I will have my hands read for my fortune as well by the various fortune tellers. kris vervaeke
