Evening twilight ushers in the subtle muting of the persistent daytime light. The bright sky gives way to softer tones of orange and pink, faint purple turns eventually to darker hues that foretell complete darkness. Striking against the changing canvas stand the sand dunes of Sossusvlei, Namibia. At first glimpse, these giants appear overwhelming, impenetrable. However, as one remains in their presence the story of their formation sweeps away any notion of stability. Much as an orchestra brings together the disparate elements of woodwinds, brass, strings, and percussion to produce complete melodies and harmonies so too do the forces of nature come together to create these incredible formations.
