Aristide Economopoulos has been a staff photographer at The Newark Star-Ledger since November 2000. Previously he was on staff at the State Journal-Register, IL, and the Jasper Herald, IN. He has covered local to international assignments ranging from the 9/11 attacks in New York City, Athens Olympics, Cuba, Norway, England, Ireland and Northern Ireland, urban violence, The White House and Presidential elections, the conflict in the Middle East to hog wrestling in Indiana. Thorough his work, he has won numerous awards including in World Press Photo, Sony World Photo Awards, Pictures of the Year International and the NPPAâ€™s Best of Photojournalism, Casey Medals, Scripps Howard National Journalism Award for Photography, PDN Photo Annual, PX3 "Prix de la Photographie Paris", Cliff Edom â€œNew America Award," Southern Photographer of the Year and Best in Shows at the Southern Short Course in News Photography and the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar. A five-time winner of NYC Press Photographer of the Year, a portfolio of his work from the 9/11 attacks in New York City was honored first place in Pictures of the Year International for Magazine and Newspaper photographers and Photo District News magazine considered one of his photos from that day to be one of the 10 best documentary photos of the decade. In 2005 he was part of the staff that won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting.
