I have a simple philosophy pertaining to the creation and release of an image...a standard of excellence, really. The image must be perfect, never requiring my attention again. I watch and wait in order to absorb the full potential of varying landscapes. Days, months, often years will pass before my patience is rewarded with a single golden hour. In short, I follow the light… yet on this particular evening, it was a blanket of darkness which showcased a most extraordinary dance of light. Walk with me through the “Starry Night”. With nature itself dictating my travel plans, I spent many cold nights watching and waiting on the light, visualizing this image before it existed. A new moon was my choice for high contrast. Ambient hues seen from San Francisco created a Northern Lights effect. The shipwreck offered up her strong subject matter and an understanding of exposure lengths afforded me just the right color.
