Entry Description

Singapore has been importing water from Johor under two bilateral agreements signed in 1961 and 1962. The 1961 Water Agreement expired in 2011 and it was not renewed. The 1962 Water Agreement will expire in 2061. By then, Singapore can be totally self sufficient with the launch of NEWater in 2003, desalinated water in 2005 and expansion of local catchment, if there are no further plans for new water agreements with Malaysia. This is a journey in search of the water pipes which has served Singaporeans for decades and a look at the natural landscape surrounding the pipes.
