These images are part of the series A Life Beyond the Dumps which documents the living and work conditions of squatter families in the dumpsites in Manila, in particular the Smokey Mountain dumpsite where families work, live and play surrounded by mountains of garbage. Many of these families are dependent on scavenging through the garbage from the average household in Manila for a living. It is sad that in a country like the Philippines, the little Tiger as economists calls it, there are people have to pick garbage for a living and children who eat garbage to survive. As the standard of living of the rising middle class takes off, it is really up to the government working alongside NGOs' to make sure people do not get left behind in an even worst condition as the rest of the population races ahead.
