Devotees from Yangon’s Hindu and Tamil communities celebrating Sri Muthumariamman festival in downtown Yangon. The festival is in honour of the goddess Mariamman” or “Mother Mari”, a Hindu tradition still widely followed by Tamil communities al over the world. Devotees at a Mariamman festival wear mostly yellow, the colour of the goddess. Some make vows to Mariamman to walk on fire, carry burning pots on their heads, or perform such acts as swing suspended on hooks through their flesh.
French-British photographer Cedric Arnold was born in 1976 in the UK. While studying history at the University of Paris, he first took up photography and filmmaking, taking courses in documentary filmmaking and spending hours in the darkroom. He made Bangkok his base in late 2001, and has since been producing work for international publications and corporations as well as for exhibits. His work is part of private, institutional and museum collections worldwide.
