The Black Collection is a series of black animals photographed on black backgrounds. In order to meet the criteria for this series, the animal must be melanistic (all black). Similar to my series of animals of light colored backgrounds, my goal was to create timeless portraits of the animals in which I capture a moment that showcases their personality, form, and texture. Using classic lighting and simple composition, I wanted to share a likeness equally as impactful as seeing the animal in person. Whether it was beauty, power, or humor, I allowed the individual animal to dictate the story being told.
