Every year, just at the arrival of fall, relatives gather at Hahoe to revere my ancestors and strengthen our heritage; we call this event, ‘Jesa’. Shiningly red apples, persimmons, and jujubes are arranged on the leftmost of the table, while on the other side, neatly arranged white pears and chestnuts are laid in perfection. This is just part of the ritual that has been performed for centuries. As one of the most prestigious and oldest households of Korea, my household has been celebrating such tradition by offering food and showing deep reverence through two gentle bows. After scrutinizing the preparation of this grandiose family event, I was able to capture my family's long lasting tradition.
