Surrogacy is a wonderful means for couples suffering infertility to have a child of their own. In Australia, it is altruistic meaning that the surrogate volunteers to carry the baby without any compensation outside of the costs of pregnancy (e.g. medical bills). Sometimes a family member will carry the baby.
