A country seat is the stately home of a member of the aristocracy. (The 'seat' in the city usually being in the House of Lords). English history has been in no small amount shaped by these residences, as well as their visitors and inhabitants. Today some remain as familial homes, steeped in duty and history, but they are often slow to be renovated under a Government system which allows only the most authentic, but costly approach. Sometimes, these provide a remarkable visual annal of forgotten moments.
