Fishermen live near by the edge of the land risking their lives to provide food for everyone and themselves. These pictures were shot at Chirala beach in India, they represent fishermen's hard work, dangerous, and demanding profession.
I did a project about Fishermen's life to learn their story in 2016. The story I am going to tell you was straight from a Fisherman, he shared how hard they work to catch fish which was the only source of his life. Firstly, they make a plan ahead of time predicting the weather forecast to see the appropriate time to go fishing on the sea. However, the weather forecast is not always accurate but sometimes they face the consequences of the bad weather. They start their journey to the middle of the sea before the sunrise. They go in groups of boats with few people in each boat carrying all the things they need including large nets. Once they reach the destination, few people from the boat cast their net while others jump into the water to adjust the net. After sometime, when they feel that the net is heavy enough to lift, the net is dragged back into the boat. Sometimes, they encounter dangerous water creatures that were not familiar or seen by anyone. Now that the nets are pulled back into the boat, they travel back to the shore to unload the net. Then nets get unloaded and new set of people join together to separate fishes from other unnecessary creatures. Now that the fish are differentiated into their categories, it gets distributed between the fishermen and others who were present in that group. Fish caught here will not only earn their source of food but also used in various forms like importing the fresh fish and processed products that come from the fish. One of the fishermen shared an interesting aspect of their living was that there is a great process involved in importing the fish and their products to other countries. Some of the fish were dried in the sun to extract crucial parts of the fish's body which is used in preparing medicine and the remaining fish gets exported to foreign countries. They face many troubles during their journey to provide sea food to all parts of the world. This profession is one of the dangerous professions in the world.
