A 400 year old home in Goa, India. Part of a project which explores architecture in relation to cultural heritage, identity and belonging. Due to socio-economic factors and migration of the younger generation out of Goa, many of the ancestral heritage homes that have belonged to a family for generations are now being sold and repurposed for commercial use. Others due to family dispute are lying vacant and abandoned. This image is a tribute to Goa's quietly graceful homes which are not mere remnants of history; they are the majestic memory keepers, tangible evidence of times lived through.

Biography

Ulka Chauhan lives and works in Mumbai, Goa & Zürich. Her work has been published in print and online by Leica Fotografie International, Leica Switzerland and Leica India as well as in arts / humanities / photography websites. She has participated in exhibitions in Zürich, Mumbai, Venice and Treviso. Her work has been awarded by LFI, TIFA and IFA. Her book,Two Worlds, featured in Condé Nast Traveller. Born in Mumbai, Ulka studied in India, Switzerland and the US and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance and Economics from Babson College in Boston.
