I took this self-portrait on February 3, 2022, as part of a series of self-portraits reflecting on Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014. Then on February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine and started the ongoing war. My heart sank... I could not digest what was happening and to me, this image became a symbol of the Russian Invasion. It is showing a woman in a traditional men's Ukrainian blouse with a men's leather belt, with a black wreath covering her face. She is ready for combat! She is ready to fight the invader! That is how I feel this year.
