DARLING is one of the main characters of Jean Genet's poetic novel "Our Lady of the Flowers" (1943) and a love interest of the daring drag queen Divine.

Biography

Natalya Nova is a photographer, painter and filmmaker based in New York. Originally from Orenburg, Russia she has lived in NYC since 2005. Her work is magical, provocative and new. She creates intimate stories and compositions that are transcendental and erotic. Working in both b&w and color, she explores the realms between dream and reality with great attention to detail.

Story

Genet wrote the novel while passing his sentence in Paris’s Prison de la Santé. It was confiscated by the guards and destroyed. He then recreated the book from memory.

I find it profoundly moving that words were so much a part of him that they couldn’t be taken, they were him.

This series is about words and their meaning, the power that they carry, their everlasting transcendental nature and so much more.

With my series I’m touching on the divine of Jean Genet, and what his language means to me.
