In “Semaphore”, I use photography to explore the shift in my perspective after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Through images, I consider what it means to integrate this life-altering information into my sense of self. I photographed nature, the body, medical images, everyday objects, and light to illustrate this change and inspire optimism and connection. While the book relates to the Parkinson’s community (10 million people are currently living with PD worldwide), I believe it also connects with others whose journeys require growth, patience, and perseverance to move forward.
