The series follows the Ried Gladiators, an amateur American football team from a small town in the countryside of Austria. American football is a niche sport in Austria. With very little public funds available to support amateur teams and having virtually no prospect of ever making a living from it, players and coaches dedicate their time for two simple reasons: the love for the game and their loyalty to each other. This photo essay tries to capture the passion, dedication and sense of community that lifted the Gladiators to Austria's third-highest play class.
