Two events in 2022 serve as a reminder that women continue to face ongoing oppression. In June, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, depriving women of their rights to abortion and sparked a large protest in the Texas Capitol later that evening. In September, Mahsa Amini was murdered in Iran for not wearing a hijab, which led to another protest in Toronto, home to many Iranians. These women were protesting in anger and horror against patriarchy and discrimination. They cry not only for themselves, but for future generations of women who deserve to live in a world free from oppression.
