In Cienfuegos, Cuba, Pueblo Nuevo's residents face poverty. Makeshift homes with limited basic services worsen living conditions. Historical factors contribute to ongoing poverty, and limited government resources hinder change. Despite adversity, locals show resilience and support each other through community-led initiatives. In one courtyard, 50 people live in six houses and share space with six pigs, symbolizing the challenges and solidarity present in this Cuban neighborhood. A. hugs M. back from work trying to prevent the pigs from escaping from the shelter where he has just fed them.
