The Mundari cattle camps in the dry season are found along the banks of the White Nile in South Sudan. The dust and smoke intermingle to create an inimitable atmosphere. The tribe have all their wealth in their cattle and there are thousands of them. I have rarely experienced such a sense of community where everyone is integral to life in the camp. Whilst in many ways it appears patriarchal, women, girls and children all have a role to play. The Mundari work from an early age and in so doing they develop the symbiotic bond which is so much a part of the camp ‘ecosystem’.
