My project is about nonconsensual sex as a violent assault; but it’s not a frontal attack on the tragedy of rape. I examine bogus, supposed exculpatory remarks of rapists, attorneys, etc. Each image is a glimpse into a rape victim’s unique misogynist experience. It’s intermission in an empty theater. On the screen is a woman’s masked face. A “Trivia” quiz intended to entertain suggests she was raped and what the rapist told her. Elements in the image suggest emotional barriers confronting women who pursue justice, e.g. attitudes of insignificance, resignation and inevitability about rape.
