On April 16, 2014, the ferry Sewol sank, killing 304 people. Many of the victims were second grade students at Danwon High School on a school trip. To commemorate the 9th anniversary of the Sewol ferry disaster, bereaved families of the Sewol ferry disaster, the Daegu subway arson and the Itaewon crush disaster, as well as public officials, politicians, journalists, and citizens attended.
