Sayaka Ikemoto Having luck, or “bringing in” luck is part of your ability, as they say in Japanese language, and I believe it is true. So that the gathering of these lion cubs could have been mere luck, but you have to be prepared and know what you are doing in order to get the right image of it. Good focus, good exposure, good composition is not achieved in mere luck. Wish I was there, too, to witness such a scene!
This image was taken at Dinaka which is at the Northern edge of the Central Kalahari Game reserve mid November 2023 on the last day of a 2 week South African Safari. I got to the bunker at 5:15am and shortly afterwards the cubs made their way to the water edge, nonchalantly looking around whilst they got in position to drink, i was amazed to see that they all lined up next to each other as if it were rehearsed. Despite the technical challenges with the low light, I knew this was one of those special moments that don't happen too often in wildlife photography.
