I recently took a dream trip to Antarctica, focused on the fabled Weddell Sea. We were out for a Zodiac excursion, moving around a large bay, searching out penguins and seals and interesting ice formations. Just before we returned to the ship, I looked back to see this lone fur seal silhouetted against an ethereal backdrop in the muted late afternoon light. The photograph instantly transports me back to a place of profound peace and beauty, quite unlike any other I've encountered on this profoundly beautiful planet. And I'm left to wonder about its impermanence...
