Sayaka Ikemoto So it’s a story about a big family, by looking at the off-stage scenes they are very human, but at the same time every member of them or the whole team is an artisan, pursuing the beauty of the art of a stage show. Each photo just pulls you into their environment making us feel as if we are actually seeing the circus show which looks so much fun and entertaining.
This portfolio captures the timelessness yet changing dynamics of the circus. With the absence of animals, performances by the troupe are now more theatrical, dynamic and usually encompass storytelling. With the resurgence of interest in analog photography, my black and white images, shot with film and SLR camera, give this old technique a modern twist.
