Alex Ng These photographs taken in Ukraine vividly reflect the devastation brought upon the country by war and the people's yearning for peace. Although the images capture scenes of conflict, they are remarkable for their simplicity, clarity, and powerful messaging. What makes this work even more extraordinary is that the photographer began shooting at just 18 years old and has documented the battlefield for three consecutive years. His ability to capture war scenes is far beyond what one would expect for someone of his age.

War is mud mixed with blood. It’s friends you make and then lose. It’s brief moments of terror followed by hours of waiting. For me, war is waiting. Soldiers waiting to see their loved ones and mothers waiting for their sons. Waiting for the spring counteroffensive, for western ammunition, but above all, waiting for it to end. I was 18 when I first came to the frontline in Ukraine, naive about war and how to describe it. Now, I am 22 and still in search of a satisfying answer. These ten images are part of many attempts, all taken in Ukraine around the month of February between 2021 and 2024.
