Patti O'Halloran The eyes, they pulled me in, they followed me, they are so beautifully captured.
In the afternoon I went out of Herat to the arid and mountainous countryside to look for Kuchi nomads. We found a couple of tented camps with a few Adobe structures. Once again I could only photograph the males and one or two of the girls. The girls were wonderful colourful attire but all I could do was look!! As a people they were incredible. The men with fierce eyes, kohl, black beards and clearly very tough. Their lives are truly arduous. I got some great portraits, I think. They were so friendly and kept inviting me for tea. They migrate seasonally, a type of transhumance.
