GWERI, UGANDA - Veronica Agwero (19) spends more than half of her life in her cabin. When her father leaves the compound to work in the field, he tethers Veronica so she can't run away. There she sleeps on the concrete floor without a mattress, hidden from the community because of her mental disability. Like many disabled in Uganda, Veronica has never been diagnosed with a specific condition, but she is disabled - and that makes her a target. Veronica's dad, Julius Oloit: "Sometimes people come to her hut to do bad stuff with her. They want to beat or abuse her."
