I took the series in Paris and New York. The topic arose by chance: I noticed that on older photos people were smoking while this no longer occurs in newer photos. The reason is that public smoking is becoming increasingly taboo and has therefore largely disappeared from our view. But, for a long time, smokers were present in large numbers in the cityscape: the cigarette in the corner of the mouth was considered an accessory and created identity and style. Before the blue haze finally clears away I have put together a little story to create a photographic monument to this "dying out species".
