“My favorite pen ran out of ink” is an interpretation of my experience living in Japan as an expat student in search of my artistic voice. Life in Tokyo offers a strange sense of isolation and freedom, which allows for uncertainty and self-discovery. Through heartaches, failures, and occasional successes, I found my voice in calling out to that universal emotional resonance—a feeling that connects us all—that exists in all things and beings from the spectacular to the mundane, and aimed show that by shortening the perceptive gap between myself, the viewer, and our shared reality.
