In 1976 my dad came home from Germany with a sunflower yellow Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible that he named Muth (pronounced moot, German for courage). I grew up in Muth’s backseat, learned to drive stick in Muth and in my 20s, mastered the clutch on the hills of San Francisco. Now in my 50s, wherever I go in Muth, someone stops me to reminisce about these charismatic vehicles. From my own experiences and love of my VW, I went looking for other like minded women. Love the Ride delves into vintage VWs as an emblem of empowerment for women, as symbols of individuality & personal mobility.
