In July 2025, two gigantic icebergs threatened the safety of Innaarsuit, a remote village in North Greenland. The icebergs had drifted to the coast of the village, and if they were to calve or roll over, the small-scale tsunami caused by this could potentially have reached the coastal houses, putting the lives of the people in danger. The municipality issued an official warning, and the local fish factory was closed. The icebergs were in a critical location for a few days before drifting away. With global temperatures on the rise, glaciers calve more frequently, producing more icebergs.
