Sayaka Ikemoto I think the theme, "what I eat is life", questioning a more profound issue as "what are we, as living creatures?", or the sort, is well depicted through this series of photos. I would like to see more of this photographer's works, current, and more future works as well.
I encountered the euthanasia of a calf during a farm stay. I did not witness the moment itself. Yet the event confronted me with the fact that what I eat is life. Since then, I have been photographing livestock. In the falling snow, the water buffalo simply stand. Their roles are milk and meat. They are animals, and at the same time, they are livestock. Their lives are held in human hands. In Japan, there is a word: itadakimasu. I continue to question its meaning through my photographs.
