The air felt like pulverised lead so charged it was with grave human issues. Issues of crime and punishment. Of forgiveness and of the impossibility to forgive. Of the unbearable heaviness of existing. And obviously, most importantly, the issue of freedom. It must be the most important human good, if hard. Without it, no other good can be good. It is because we are free that we can even lose our freedom. The world outside could be imagined as if through slits in the prison's walls. Suddenly an electric wave crossed the courtyard and all we heard as we quickly left was them chanting: Libertad.
