I-Chan Park By preserving color in the figures and the bench while subduing the urban background in monochrome, this photograph creates a sense of visual unfamiliarity within an otherwise familiar street. The walking figure and the seated figure bring the temporal rhythms of movement and stillness into quiet intersection, while the dark entrance between them evokes the psychological distance experienced by city dwellers. Through restrained color and deep tonal contrasts, an ordinary moment is transformed into a psychological landscape inhabited by solitude and silence.

It was 9:00 AM on a city street, and the strong morning sunlight cut rigorous diagonal shadows across the pavement. I noticed these two people at the boundary of light and shadow—sharing the same space, yet acting like two parallel geometric lines that never intersect. Using this extreme high contrast, I sought to capture the pervasive sense of both physical and emotional detachment among the crowd within the cold order of the modern city.
