I was searching the gorgonian coral for nudibranchs when a longnose hawkfish appeared, tucked delicately among the branches. In Palau, they are not especially rare, but their shyness and depth often make each encounter feel fleeting. As I framed the first fish, another arrived and landed beside it as if drawn into the scene. Together, they looked like two lovers beneath sakura blossoms, sharing a private conversation in the hush of the reef.
