At the end of May this year, continuous heavy rain in Taiwan led to the discharge of a large amount of waste in Xinjiexi estuary, located in Taoyuan, Dayuan District. These wastes were illegally disposed of for more than 20 years ago. The city government dispatched excavators and grab trucks, and also mobilized volunteers to remove waste. In the end, it took three weeks to remove the waste. A total of 335 metric tons of waste was cleared, which is equivalent to one-third of the daily waste produced in Taoyuan City.
