The Ann Tribe is one of the Shan States' most fascinating ethnic groups and is a hidden gem of Myanmar. Many tourists decide to leave the peaceful Kengtung out of their itinerary but this means they will miss out on a very unique part of the world. The Ann Tribe inhabits the hills of Kengtung and are known for their black teeth, which comes from the excessive chewing of betel plant. Tourism helps support their way of life as they sell their hand-made bracelets and stretch-lobe earrings. Local guides also contribute towards the communities, recently building WCs and a new school.
