This portrait is my homage to Sarah Milner-Barry’s take on the personification of ‘Mother Nature’ and the need to deconstruct our ‘gendered conceptions’. She argues, that the conflation of women and nature (e.g. ‘virgin forest’, life-giving, uncontrollable, etc.) is exclusive and reinforces society’s perception of gender roles. The goal of this photo is to challenge how women, men, and nature are stereotypically portrayed and to disassociate any specific gender with nature.
