I got to know Emine and her countless animals during the early spring of 2020. She lives in a cave dwelling in Capadocia, Turkey. Emine learned sheep raising from her ancestors and it is the sole source of her income. Of the shepherds in Turkey, 99% are males. Her income sources are the sale of milk, wool, and butchery animals. I experienced her everyday life; sharing the highs and lows of her solitary and some days lonely existence. There is no running water and electricity is generated by a couple of solar panels hung into the rock face wall. Her name Emine means courageous and trustworthy.
