Living Memories explores the daily lives of women who lived a century ago, in different Jewish communities in Europe. Few traces of their stories still exist so I create my own narratives, derived from autobiographical contexts. The incorporating old b/w photographs from that era, embroidery and knitting from local yarn support the connections to place, time, women’s work, and to my own sense of identity and belonging. These photographs become new interpretations of reality, in which we can relate to the presence of these women today, while keeping them alive in our collective memory.
