1993, Bill Clinton and the Pentagon released 165 base closings and reductions. Three years later in 1997, Naval Air Station Alameda was closed. In the next couple of years the base would be named a super fund site and become mostly abandoned. This selection of images are from the former military housing. The series Training Ground, shows images of housing that were used for training police, fire department, and DEA employees. These groups used the housing to practice fire exercises, dope dogs, and urban guerrilla training, leaving the buildings destroyed. Now they stand as a carcass of history, boarded up, filled with lead paint and asbestos. If all goes well, various developers hope to fill this toxic area with new homes and retail developments. So far, for the last twelve years or so, all plans have failed, but the developers are still working on it. Wish them good luck.
