From the edge and above, I am repeatedly drawn to photograph dramatic coastline and the rhythmic movement of the surf surge and retreat. At the onset of El Niño in 2015, I began capturing aerial abstractions of the central coast of California. The turbulent weather and massive swell were impressive yet alarmingly powerful. This ongoing series now spans the pacific coast from Oregon to Nayarit, Mexico. The dual nature of being – tumultuous and calm, destructive and restorative – is reflected in this work.
