When the pandemic first hit the natural world got a break from pollution and land overuse because people were staying at home and minimizing their impact. Now there is an overwhelming amount of plastic waste due to sanitation policies and the use of single use personal protective equipment. Of course we need to protect ourselves, but is there a way we can do it more sustainably? Estimates say that over 1.56 billion face masks could end up polluting our oceans. I have seen this pollution first hand and it is disheartening, BUT we can create changes to make this new lifestyle more sustainable.
